Former grow-op house now a bargain up for sale by Manitoba government

Someone in Manitoba will be able to buy a former grow-op house from the provincial government at a bargain price.

WINNIPEG — Someone in Manitoba will be able to buy a former grow-op house from the provincial government at a bargain price.

The posh bungalow, in the city’s south end, was seized by the province in 2008 when police found 850 marijuana plants in the basement.

The house has visible mould and needs some serious cleaning, but Justice Minister Andrew Swan says it is a good deal, listed at $349,000.

He says that’s well below the value of homes in the area.

It’s the second house seized under a recent law that allows the government to sell the property of criminals.

Money from the sale will be used for crime-fighting programs.
