REVELSTOKE, B.C. — RCMP have identified the 45-year-old man who died in an avalanche while on a heli-skiing tour near Revelstoke, in southeast B.C.

Police say the victim is Ronald Gregory Sheardown, a former Canadian from Stouffville, Ont., who had been living in Dubai.

Sheardown was among a group of 11 people and a guide with Canadian Mountain Holidays when the snowslide came crashing down on some of them Friday afternoon.

Three people managed to dig themselves out, but Sheardown was pulled out unresponsive after being located via the signal from his personal avalanche transceiver.

Police say the disaster was human-triggered, and are noting milder temperatures have created increased risks of avalanches throughout the province.

Sheardown is the third avalanche victim in B.C. this season.
