REDWATER — A former member of the legislature from central Alberta has been killed in a car crash.

Dave Broda served as Conservative member for Redwater from 1997 to 2004.

Jeff Johnson, current member for Redwater-Athabasca, says exact details of what happened aren’t known.

But he says it’s a terrible loss to the constituency and the province.

Johnson says Broda was a mentor who guided him into politics.

During his time in office he served as chair of the Advisory Council on Alberta-Ukraine Relations.

“Dave was a tireless worker, and a tireless advocate for our communities,” said Johnson.

“He was a great husband and father, and our thoughts and prayers go out to (wife) Eileen and his family, and he’ll be missed.

“I wouldn’t be in the seat that I’m in, without Dave and his support and his guidance.”
