A former Rocky Mountain House man has been released from custody in Kelowna on child pornography and sexual assault charges, a British Columbia RCMP officer says.

Brian Leslie Burton, 39, was released this week and ordered to return to court in Kelowna on Nov. 20 to enter a plea, Const. Rosiane Racine of the Integrated Child Exploitation Unit said on Thursday.

Burton has been in custody since early August after he was arrested following an investigation.

He is under house arrest on charges of sexually assaulting a child after police found evidence that the accused was allegedly “actively abusing” a child.

He first popped up on B.C. ICE’s radar on June 16 after he was identified as being one of the most active distributors in B.C.

The child’s age, gender, location and relationship to Burton are being withheld to protect the child’s identity.

Burton is also charged with interference with a person under 16 and inviting, counselling or inciting a person under 16 to touch another person.

He is also charged with making child pornography, two counts of distribution of child porn and three counts of possession of child porn.

Police say the suspect moved to Kelowna from Rocky and appeared to be working alone.
