Forum in Olds to boost youth interest in agriculture

An upcoming forum should give a boost to youths with an interest in agriculture.The Agricultural Youth Engagement Foundation is organizing the June 23 event, which will take place at the Olds College campus.Called Agriculture: A Bright Idea, the one-day forum is geared for participants ages 12 to 21. It will include workshops on topics like marketing.

An upcoming forum should give a boost to youths with an interest in agriculture.

The Agricultural Youth Engagement Foundation is organizing the June 23 event, which will take place at the Olds College campus.

Called Agriculture: A Bright Idea, the one-day forum is geared for participants ages 12 to 21. It will include workshops on topics like marketing.

Speakers will include Ken Clark, general manager of fresh with the Overwaitea Food Group. Clark has also worked with a variety of other food organizations over the past 40 years.

Also presenting will be Yves Plante, a research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, who works primarily in the area of population genetics characterization, conservation of farm animal genetic resources and phylogenetic analyses. Larry Thomas, national co-ordinator of the Canadian Beef Advantage — Beef InfoXchange System with the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, is scheduled to take part as well.

So is Robert Eirich, who will share his expertise in marketing.

Cost to attend Agriculture: A Bright Idea is $15, which includes a jacket, swag bag, lunch and snacks.
