The Eagles led 1-0 after one period on a goal from Doug Auchenberg, but the visiting Generals pulled even when Curtis Austring connected in the second period and built a 3-1 lead on third-period goals from Robert Chappell and Kevin Smyth. The Eagles battled back as Brandt Middleton potted a power-play marker at 15:10 and Blair Hennes scored at 16:16, but Robertson fired the winner just 23 seconds later.

Jordan Alford made 25 saves for the Generals, who beat Stony Plain 4-3 Wednesday. Sean Fields blocked 27 shots for the Eagles.

In other weekend Chinook games:

l The West Central Alberta Rams were dumped 5-1 by the host Lloydminster Border Kings Saturday.

Colin Shaw had the Rams’ lone goal while Jordan Ramstead made 21 saves. B.J. Boxma stopped 35 shots for the Border Kings, who got a two-goal outing from Jordy Dougan.

l The Innisfail Eagles dropped both ends of a home-and-home set with the Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs, falling 7-4 at home Saturday after taking an 11-2 beating 24 hours earlier on the road.

Clark Lowry recorded a hat trick in a losing cause Saturday. Luke Boyer also scored for the Eagles, who fired 32 shots at Chiefs netminder David Tetrault while Innisfail goalie Archie Henderson was making 61 saves.

Boyer potted both Innisfail goals at Fort Saskatchewan, where the Chiefs directed 36 shots at Eagles stopper Josh Seibel and Tetrault and Kindred combined to make 24 saves for the winners.

Vipers take down Cubs

Maverick Blair scored twice and Jason Pohl made 40 saves to lead the Red Deer Vipers to a 7-4 Heritage Junior B Hockey League win over the visiting Medicine Hat Cubs Saturday.

Ryan Blades, David Foord, J.D. Morrical, Justin Moir and Drew Todd each netted a goal for the Vipers, who led 5-3 after two periods following a scoreless opening 20 minutes.

Red Deer fired 38 shots at Cubs netminder Troy Wagner and was assessed 11 of 18 minor penalties.

The Vipers’ victory followed on the heels of Friday’s 7-2 triumph over the host Rimbey Rock.

Foord and Morrical each tallied twice for Red Deer, which got single goals from Moir, Todd and Colton Sutter. Justin Lawson and Rylund Lawson replied for the Rock.

Pohl turned aside 24 shots, while Joel Richard made 46 saves for Rimbey. The Rock took six of 10 minor penalties and the teams split two fighting majors.

In other weekend Heritage League games involving Central Alberta teams:

l Wagner was red-hot between the pipes for the Cubs Sunday at Blackfalds, turning away 48 shots in a 2-1 loss to the host Wranglers.

Kurtis Ross and David Jantzie, with the third-period winner, scored for the Wranglers, who got a 27-save outing from Layne Swier.

l In another Sunday contest, Mike Arvidson, Matt Wildeman and Ryan Layden tallied for the Three Hills Thrashers in a 5-3 loss to the visiting Airdrie Thunder.

l The host Stettler Lightning fell 7-5 to the Cochrane Generals Saturday. Orie Spearing, Robb David, Ryan Traynor, Jeff Kohut and Brett Ouellette scored in a losing cause.

The Lightning also came up short against the visiting Thrashers Friday night, dropping a narrow 4-3 decision.

Kyle McCormick sniped two goals for the winners, who got singles from Scott Bell and Arvidson. Kohut, Adam McDavid and Mitch Finkbiner answered for the Lightning.

Three Hills netminder Simon Thieleman and Stettler stopper Landon Schmidt each made 24 saves.

l Connor Sibbett notched the lone goal for Rimbey in a 6-1 loss to the host Mountainview Colts Saturday.

North rallies for AJHL All-star win

FORT MCMURRAY — Red Deer product Erik Slemp, a Camrose Kodiaks forward, opened the scoring for the South Division in Saturday’s Alberta Junior Hockey League all-star game.

The South side led 4-0 before the halfway mark of the opening period, but the North Division contigent roared back for a 14-9 win.

Olds Grizzys forward Corey Campbell and defenceman Frank Carbonaro each notched a goal in a losing cause, while Olds netminder Marc Boulanger guarded the South net — and surrendered five goals — in the second period.
