Generals go down firing

The Bentley Generals went down shooting . . . and shooting some more.

The Bentley Generals went down shooting . . . and shooting some more.

The Generals pelted Horse Lake Chiefs netminder Jase Weslosky with 59 shots Friday but couldn’t buy a goal and fell 2-0 before 725 fans at the Bentley Arena, their senior hockey season ending as a result.

The victory gave Horse Lake a 4-1 win in the best-of-seven provincial AAA semifinal. The Chiefs will now face the Stony Plain Eagles in the Alberta final, with the winner earning the right to take on the B.C. champion for a berth in the Allan Cup tournament April 16-21 at Lloydminster.

Tyler Shantz notched the only goal the Chiefs needed Friday, connecting early in the second period. The Generals outshot their guests 46-18 through the first two periods and 13-9 in the final frame, but couldn’t get a puck past Weslosky while giving up a single goal — an empty-netter by Jesse Dudas in the final minute.

Generals netminder Travis Yonkman made 25 saves.
