MEDICINE HAT — Police say an 18-month-old girl has died in hospital from head injuries after an alleged assault at a day home in southern Alberta.
The girl had been taken by air ambulance from Medicine Hat to Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary earlier this week.
A 23-year-old woman, who was taking care of the girl at the private residence, was originally charged with aggravated assault and failing to provide the necessities of life.
But police anticipate those charges will be adjusted once an autopsy is completed.
The facility is licensed by the provincial government.
