REGINA — It was an unusual wake-up call in a north Regina neighbourhood when the driver of a car lost control and hit a house.

Police Sgt. Tim Huber says the accident happened about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

He says a girl was trapped in the vehicle and two male occupants fled.

Emergency crews had to rescue the girl.

She was taken to hospital with injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening.

Lorraine Wallace, who lives in the house, says she had no idea what woke her up.

“I was thinking about getting up and I heard an awful bang,” she said. “It was worse than thunder.”

Wallace says the car flipped so high it hit her home’s roof. The vehicle settled upside down and straddled her front yard and her neighbour’s driveway.

“There’s cracks inside the house now that weren’t there. It was quite an impact,” said Wallace.

Dean Pelzer, the father of two young children, also lives in the neighbourhood. He said he has concerns about the speed at which people drive in the area.

“I think it’s pretty apparent that people take that corner really quickly and that’s the result,” he said. “I would really like to see some speed bumps around here ... because the neighbourhood is starting to fill up with young kids.”

He said his children, who are five and three, aren’t allowed to play on the street.

“We see quite a few young people tearing around the corner relatively quickly and sometimes too fast.”

Police are asking that anyone with information on the whereabouts of the men who fled should call 911.
