Golf coupon not honoured

To my fellow 2014 Tee-Off Coupon Book users — beware!

Yes, it is our very own, city-run River Bend Golf Course in Red Deer I am referring to.

If you are like me and have purchased a 2014 Tee-Off Coupon Book to receive discounted golf in and around the Central Alberta area, I just want to let you know that our very own River Bend Golf Course in Red Deer (on Page 114) is no longer honoring their “unrestricted” (25 per cent off, one to four players) offer.

I decided to write this letter because earlier in the 2014 golf season, River Bend was honouring the 2014 Tee-Off Coupon Book as presented — three times for me, in fact.

Then on July 11, when we were checking in at the pro shop, the staff informed us that they are only honouring the 2014 Tee-Off coupon Monday through Wednesday, the same as the Canada Golf Card; because they said it was the same coupon.

Then they said River Bend Golf Course was not even supposed to be in the 2014 Tee-Off Coupon Book. I found this comment strange as well; this is basic advertising 101. Proofs have to be accepted as such in order to be placed in the book. Otherwise, notice of corrections are also included/posted at the retail outlets. River Bend had not posted any notice of corrections on July 11, when we were there.

We informed them that they were in the book with no restrictions on days or time of use. From the attitude of the response, I am sure we were not the first or only ones using this great coupon book for discounted golf at River Bend.

The bottom line is that they were not going to budge — that was that. So we reluctantly paid the full fee so we could golf.

Afterwards, we made numerous attempts to try to communicate with the management person who made this decision at River Bend, without any luck. We were unable to communicate with Andrew Gilchrist (general manager).

So they, golf pro Todd Fiske and staff, are only going to honour the Tee-Off Coupon from Monday to Wednesdays. Todd is claiming that it is the same promotions or advertising as the 2014 Golf Canada Card.

But the Golf Canada Card and the 2014 Tee-Off Coupon book are not the same promotion.

Even as of July 15, there is no notice of correction under their Important Information and Notices section on the Golf Rates tab on River Bend’s website.

Will River Bend honour their advertised promotion?

Has anyone else had this problem?
