Saskatchewan bluegrass band Johnnie Ninety-Nine is bringing a piping-hot batch of countrified songs to Red Deer this week.

The “good time family band” whose textural, atmospheric music has echoes of Appalachia, will be performing on Thursday at The Hideout, south of Red Deer in Gasoline Alley.

Johnnie Ninety-Nine is made up of some string-pickin’ pioneers, whose songs have been likened to the kind of music alt-country-folk singer Michelle Shocked might produce if she rewrote the American Country Songbook.
