Government says Red Deer physician broke law by leaving patient records behind

An investigator says a Red Deer physician has broken an Alberta law by leaving behind patient medical records when he moved his office.

RED DEER, Alta. — An investigator says a Red Deer physician has broken an Alberta law by leaving behind patient medical records when he moved his office.

An official with the Alberta Privacy Commissioner says a property management firm found 10 boxes of records left behind in Dr. Anthony Ford’s former office.

And the official say it is the second time such records have been recovered from the same address.

Investigator Brian Hamilton says Ford has contravened Alberta’s Health Information Act.

He says Ford has since conducted an inventory, flagged all records that fell out of his custody and is prepared to answer questions from his patients.

Another official with the commissioner’s office says Ford will not face any penalty for breaking the Health Information Act.
