Governor General David Johnston has agreed to become a patron of the Canadian Olympic Committee.

OTTAWA — Governor General David Johnston has agreed to become a patron of the Canadian Olympic Committee.

The official announcement will be made Monday.

As the Queen’s representative in Canada, Johnston supports many community, charitable, military and cultural associations through his patronage.

The announcement comes just over a month before the Summer Olympics, which open July 27 in London.

The COC has set a goal of finishing among the top 12 countries in the overall medal standings.
