All things fabric will be up for grabs at the Red Deer chapter of GrammaLink-Africa fabric fundraiser for the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign on April 21.

The large fabric sale runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gaetz United Church on 4758 Ross St. In the meantime, the group is looking for donations of fabric (one metre or more), yarn, knitting needles, notions and patterns. Donations will be accepted until April 10.

Red Deer’s GrammaLink-Africa is one of 240 grandmother groups across Canada that are part of the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmother to Grandmother Campaign. The groups raise awareness and support in Canada for Africa’s grandmothers and the orphan children in their care due to HIV/AIDS.

In 2011, the Red Deer chapter raised $20,500,00 as part of the $296,600,00 raised in Alberta. The money raised supports 300 community-based HIV/AIDS projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Projects focus on providing food, water, shelter/housing grants, school fees/uniforms, garden seeds and home-based care for the sick and dying.

For donation pick ups, call Mary Ellen at 403-340-1365 or Shirley at 403-347-5958 no later than April 10.

All proceeds of the fabric sale will go to the campaign.
