Grant to help end violence toward women

Shining Mountains Living Community Services in Red Deer is receiving a federal grant to work towards ending violence against women in Central Alberta.

Shining Mountains Living Community Services in Red Deer is receiving a federal grant to work towards ending violence against women in Central Alberta.

The organization announced it received $299,500 from the Status of Women Canada Thursday.

The money will be used for Shining Mountain’s Community Plan, a project in partnership with Blackfalds Neighbourhood Place.

The Community Plan takes input from Blackfalds community members, leaders and council to create a personalized Blackfalds plan to reduce violence against women.

The plan can then be used by the public, emergency responders, RCM and leaders.

Work on the plan has already begun and it will be implemented over the next three years.

“It is a project that was inspired, driven and written by community members of Blackfalds, women who have been affected by violence and those who work for and with them,” said Raye St. Denys, the executive director of Shining Mountains.
