GRANDE PRAIRIE — A grenade found in a box of keepsakes has caused a bit of a stir in a northwestern Alberta city.

Grande Prairie RCMP say they were called to an RV park by a person who found the explosive device in possessions from a relative.

Police were advised by an explosives disposal unit to evacuate the area in a 15-metre radius of the grenade, so the caller and occupants of one other trailer were asked to leave.

The Canadian Forces Base in Cold Lake was contacted and military officials were on their way to dispose of the grenade.

The grenade is believed to be from the Second World War.
