Griffiths finishes second at junior qualifier

DeWINTON — Katie Griffiths of Red Deer finished second in the junior girls’ division of the Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Junior and Canadian Junior Golf Association junior worlds qualifier Sunday.

Griffiths shot 83-83—166 to finish two strokes back of Carolyn Lee of Calgary (81-83).

Meanwhile, Logan Hill of Red Deer tied for eighth in the boys’ 14-and-under division shooting a 79 the second day to go with a 92 on Saturday for a 171 total, 20 strokes back of Alex Frances of Burnaby, B.C.

Matt Codd of Red Deer tied for 10th in the 15-19 year-old category with rounds of 79-81—160 and Nolan Bruin of Red Deer had rounds of 93-93 for a 176 total. Patrick Murphy of Crossfield placed first at 71-72—143.

• PARKSVILLE, B.C. — A pair of Red Deer competitors finished well back in the CN Future Links Pacific championship during the weekend.

Brett Pasula had rounds of 84-81-76 for a 241 total, which left him 19 strokes back of Zach Anderson of Nanaimo, B.C.

Red Deer’s Jesse Teron came in at 249 following rounds of 85-78-86.
