Guilty plea expected in 30-year-old sex assault case

Three-decades-old sex assault-related charges against a Lacombe area man will result in guilty pleas later this month, Red Deer court heard on Wednesday.

Three-decades-old sex assault-related charges against a Lacombe area man will result in guilty pleas later this month, Red Deer court heard on Wednesday.

Mark Archibald, 56, returns to provincial court on Nov. 30 to enter guilty pleas, his lawyer, Kevin Sproule told Judge Thomas Schollie.

Archibald, the former head of the Lacombe Foundation, is charged with three charges each of indecent assault and gross indecency.

Sproule told court earlier that he was dealing with a Calgary Crown prosecutor working on the case. The accused wasn’t present in court.

The assaults are all alleged to have occurred against males who were younger than the accused, who was 23 at the time.

Archibald is charged with incidents between Jan. 1, 1978, and Dec. 31, 1979.

Two incidents are alleged to have occurred near Calgary while the other was near Gull Lake.

Archibald resigned as chief administrative officer of Lacombe Foundation last June, new CAO Dennis Beesley said earlier.

Beesley said this in no way is connected with his employment at the foundation, which is an arm of the provincial government with a mandate to provide affordable housing for low-income families and seniors in Lacombe and area.
