A six-week series of free workshops to help Central Albertans take control of their health and feel better starts on Nov. 1.
The series Better Choices, Better Health, formerly known as Paddle Your Own Canoe, is presented by Alberta Health Services to support people living with ongoing health conditions, like diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure, chronic pain and obesity.
The workshops will address topics such as handling pain and fatigue, managing medication, dealing with difficult emotions, healthy eating and activity, problem solving, goal setting and communicating with health-care providers.
The self-management workshops are led by AHS staff and trained volunteers, many of whom live with a chronic disease and understand the challenges participants face.
Better Choices, Better Health workshops will be held in Red Deer on Tuesdays from Nov. 1 to 22, and continue on Nov. 30 and Dec. 6.
All sessions will be held at the Community Health Centre, at 2845 Bremner Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
