A woman charged in a New Year’s Eve stabbing death on the Samson Cree Nation will have a preliminary hearing from Oct. 10 to 12 in Wetaskiwin provincial court.

Phoebe Firingstoney, 30, has been charged with second-degree murder.

A preliminary is held to determine if there’s enough evidence to warrant an accused be tried in Court of Queen’s Bench.

The charge was laid after police and emergency crews were called at 7:40 p.m. to a home in the Hobbema townsite and found Jamie Lee Soosay, 34, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.
