A preliminary inquiry will be held next October for a man charged with kidnapping a prominent Ponoka businessman at gunpoint earlier in the year.

Larry Hugh McClelland, 50, has been in custody for a psychiatric assessment.

On Friday when his case returned to Ponoka provincial court, a preliminary inquiry was scheduled for Oct. 15 to 18 in Ponoka.

A preliminary inquiry is held to determine if there’s enough evidence to warrant an accused be tried in Court of Queen’s Bench.

McClelland also faces charges of unlawful confinement, using a firearm in the commission of an indictable offence, possession of a restricted firearm, extortion, pointing a firearm, and uttering threats.

The charges came after Ponoka auctioneer Blair Vold, 56, was abducted at gunpoint from his Morningside area property on Sept. 15.
