Celtic singer/songwriter Debbie Zepick will be one of the performers at a fundraiser for the Shalom Counselling Centre on Saturday, Oct. 15. The counselling centre is a registered Christian charity. The evening at First Christian Reformed Church has been called the annual fall Friend Raiser for Shalom Counselling Centre. The event includes performances from Central Alberta Homeschool Choir and piano stylings of Andrew Bromley. Although admission is free, donations are accepted for the counselling service, which has provided service to 2,752 people since 2010. The event opens with a silent auction at 6:30 p.m., with entertainment to follow. The church is at 16 McVicar St. in Red Deer. Little Warriers

Individuals and groups will learn ways to prevent and recognize the signs of child sexual abuse through a Little Warriors workshop. The nonprofit organization educates adults about child sexual abuse through various initiatives. The Stewards of Children program is a three-hour training session scheduled for Oct. 22 at the at Parkland Youth Homes on 54th Street in Red Deer. The session runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $40 per person; $25 per person for in groups of two to nine or $15 per person for groups of 10 or more people.
