TABER — RCMP say they have charged a Taber homeowner after an intruder was struck in the face with a hatchet.

Police say on May 29 a man returning to his farm noticed a strange car parked in his driveway.

The homeowner blocked the car with his vehicle and during a search of the area discovered a man in his 20s.

That man was struck in the face, suffering injuries that had to be treated in hospital.

RCMP arrested the injured man and two other suspects and charged them with break and enter.

After a review by the Crown, police Tuesday charged Joseph Singleton, 36, with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Singleton is to appear in Taber provincial court on Nov. 26.
