The Red Deer Hospice’s seventh annual Hike for Hospice event raised $25,000 for hospice care on May 4.
Over 200 people came out, despite falling snow, to hike the trails in the Kerry Wood Nature Centre’s Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary.
Hike for Hospice is a national event to raise awareness of the need for better access to quality end-of-life care for Canada’s aging population. It also serves to honour the hospice palliative care volunteers and health-care providers.
All funds stay in the Red Deer community and the $25,000 from this year will fund 70 days of hospice care.
Last year, the hike raised over $36,000.
