COCHRANE — A medical examiner has determined that partial remains found in a rural area northwest of Calgary are from a human body.

Children playing outside their home near Highway 22 south of Cochrane made the grisly discovery last Saturday morning.

Police say the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition.

Investigators closed down a road in the area as they searched for other evidence.

The remains were confirmed as human following a check by the medical examiner in Calgary.

The RCMP’s major crimes unit and the Mounties’ Calgary forensic identification section are involved in the investigation.
