Illegal movie camcording in Canada appears on decline

It appears that Canada’s reputation as a movie camcording hotbed has changed considerably.

MONTREAL — It appears that Canada’s reputation as a movie camcording hotbed has changed considerably.

Montreal and Calgary had earned a reputation as being among the worst offenders with a considerable amount of pirated movies coming out of those markets. But three arrests, increased movie theatre security and new laws designed to quell film theft that came into effect in June 2007 have proven effective.

Neither Montreal nor Calgary have had movies sourced back to them since 2007.

While there are sporadic attempts, the RCMP says the number of complaints have dropped dramatically.
