EDMONTON — Police have charged an inmate at the Edmonton Institution in the death of a fellow prisoner earlier this month.
Lance Matthew Shane Regan, who is 24 years old, is charged with first-degree murder.
The charges stem from the death of 21-year-old inmate Mason Tex Montgrand on Aug. 16 at the maximum-security penitentiary.
Police were called to the prison after a fight broke out between the inmates.
Shortly after officers had the situation under control, the victim went into medical distress and died a short time later.
An autopsy concluded he had been stabbed.
