An Innisfail man charged in December following a large marijuana growing operation bust will have a trial in about eight months.

Shaun M. Kilvington, 31, elected to be tried by a provincial court judge when he appeared in Red Deer provincial court on Tuesday.

The trial on Oct. 26 is expected to take a day, federal Crown prosecutor Dave Inglis told court.

Kilvington was arrested and charged last Dec. 1 when RCMP raided a huge marijuana operation west of Innisfail.

He faces charges of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and the production of marijuana.

Investigators reported finding 564 plants with an estimated street value of $705,000, police said earlier.

Members of the federal drug section, supported by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team — Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit — Green Team South, the Innisfail detachment and Red Deer dog section, executed a warrant on the property at 8:30 a.m.
