Police and emergency crews attended this serious collision in the southbound lanes of The Queen Elizabeth 2 Highway just south of Bowden on Saturday afternoon.

A 50-year-old Innisfail man is fighting for his life in a Calgary hospital following a collision between an SUV and transport truck on Highway 2, south of Bowden, just before noon on Saturday.

Const. Steve Molnar of the Innisfail RCMP Integrated Traffic Services said it appears the SUV was travelling south when it sideswiped the truck heading in the same direction.

After the initial impact, the driver of the SUV lost control and rolled several times before coming to rest at the median cable barrier.

The SUV driver from Innisfail was taken by STARS Air Ambulance to a hospital in Calgary. As of Sunday afternoon, the man remained in critical condition. One passenger was treated for minor injuries at the scene and another was taken to the Red Deer Regional Hospital by ground ambulance and has since been released. The transport truck driver was uninjured.

The collision forced the closure of the southbound lanes of the highway for an hour. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
