A 12-day preliminary inquiry will be held for a Bowden Institution inmate charged in the stabbing death of another inmate last year.

Keith Clinton Sandmaier, 34, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of David Tung Louie, 33, on June 19, 2011.

RCMP were called to the prison at about 11 a.m. after a badly injured inmate was discovered. Louie was taken to Innisfail Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary hearing is held to determine if there’s enough evidence to warrant an accused be tried in Court of Queen’s Bench.

The hearing is scheduled to run from Jan. 21 to Feb. 1, 2013.
