Invasive plant council returning to Red Deer

The Alberta Invasive Plants Council is returning to Red Deer for its 2012 conference and AGM.The council, which includes representatives from all the three levels of government, industry, non-government organizations, academia and the public, will meet April 19 at the Sheraton Red Deer Hotel.

The council, which includes representatives from all the three levels of government, industry, non-government organizations, academia and the public, will meet April 19 at the Sheraton Red Deer Hotel.

The conference theme will be New Invasive Threats to Alberta: Meeting the Challenge. Topics to be discussed will include stopping the spread of invasive species in Idaho, equipment that transports invasive plants, horticulture and media, an Alberta update on flowering rush and other invasive plants, and mapping technology.

The keynote speaker will be Eileen Ryce, aquatic nuisance species co-ordinator with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. She’ll discuss Montana’s aquatic invasive plants situation.
