Investigation underway into another RCMP shooting in Alberta

GRASSLAND, Alta. — A man is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after he was shot during a confrontation with the RCMP in northern Alberta.

Mounties say they were called Saturday evening to Grassland, about 180 kilometres north of Edmonton, where a man was reportedly firing a gun near a house.

Sgt. Patrick Webb, an RCMP spokesman, says officers talked a man into leaving a trailer, but one officer fired at him when he refused to drop a shotgun he was carrying.

Webb says the male, believed to be in his 40s, went back into the trailer and fired one shot outside before surrendering, but no officers were hurt.

Charges have not been laid, but Webb says the man is known to police and that alcohol played a role.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting — the third involving the RCMP since the beginning of the year.
