Brendan Leis made 43 saves for the visitors, who led 1-0 after one period and erupted for four goals in the middle frame. Jeff Kohut, Ryan Traynor and Nathan Howard scored for the Vipers, who were asessed 12 of 20 minor penalties and two of four fighting majors.

Red Deer netminder Jason Pohl stopped 23 shots.

The Blackfalds Wranglers, with Dylan Wiedmer potting the eventual winner in the second period, doubled the visiting Okotoks Bisons 4-2 Sunday afternoon.

Brady Thudium, Chance Abbott and Jared Williams notched the other Blackfalds goals. Winning netminder Layne Swier made 38 saves, as did the visitors’ Weston Joseph. The clubs split 12 minor penalties and two misconducts.

In other Heritage League weekend games involving Central Alberta teams:

• The Stettler Lightning split a pair of outings, falling 7-4 to visiting Okotoks and downing the visiting Three Hills Thrashers 3-1.

Landon Potter, Shayne Liukkonen, Reese Anheliger and Gavin Brandl scored against Okotoks and Simon Thieleman made 34 saves in a losing effort.

Brandl, Anheliger and Jake Schwarzenberger pulled the trigger against the Thrashers, who goal was courtesy of Landon Kletke. Steven Aldman made 27 saves for Stettler and Devon Dell stopped 25 shots for Three Hills.

• Three Hills got a goal from each of Kletke, Calvin Main, Brodie Lutz, Matt Wildeman and Micah Abbott and a 20-stop effort from Dell in a 7-1 victory over visiting Medicine Hat.

The Thrashers also defeated the host Strathmore Wheatland Kings 5-4 on an overtime goal from Michael Stoetzel.

Also scoring for the winners were Abbott, Luke Scheunert, Joel Harrison and Zachary Bauer. Three Hills goalie Brady Hoover made 27 saves.

• The host Ponoka Stampeders were 9-1 losers to the Cochrane Generals.

Kyle Colonna had the lone goal for the Stamps, while Ponoka stopper Aaron Swier made 39 saves.

The Stamps also fell 5-0 to the visiting Mountainview Colts as losing goalie Logan Stebner stopped 78 shots.

• Blackfalds ventured into Cochrane and rolled the Generals 5-1 as Wyatt Fraser scored twice and Abbott, Karson French and Chad Muth also connected. Swier stopped 26 shots for the win.
