A 20-year-old New Zealand man has been killed in Banff National Park during a white water kayaking trip.
The experienced kayaker was paddling down a drop in Red Creek Tuesday afternoon when his kayak overturned underneath a ledge.
He was under the water for several minutes before he was pulled to safety and later died in hospital. Parks Canada warns the melt from a heavy snow pack has led to rising water levels in rivers and creeks, and it will only get worse as the melt continues.
Meanwhile, a Calgary man in his 30s had to be rescued by helicopter from a mountain in the Bow Valley on Wednesday afternoon.
