EDMONTON — RCMP believe a public plea made by the father of a man charged in the shootings of two Alberta Mounties helped keep his arrest peaceful.

Sawyer Clarke Robison, 27, was taken into custody in a rural area southeast of Edmonton at about 5 a.m. Friday.

Police say Robison was extremely stressed when he was found in a truck on a country road with two other people near an industrial area.

Assistant Commissioner Marianne Ryan says police aren’t sure where he was since he fled the shooting scene near Killam on Tuesday.

Ryan says Robison was unarmed when he was found and the arrest was peaceful.

He faces two counts of attempted murder and is to make his first court appearance next week.

“We are extremely relieved that this situation has been resolved without any further harm to our members or the community,” Ryan said at RCMP headquarters in Edmonton.

“We can now focus our efforts on the criminal investigation.”

She said the two people who were with Robison when he was arrested are not being charged.

The weapons police believe he may have had with him are unaccounted for, Ryan added. As well, investigators are still looking for the truck he may have been driving.

Constables Sidney Gaudette and Sheldon Shah are recovering in hospital from gunshot wounds to their torsos.
