Kleibrink moves into A-side semi

Defending champion Shannon Kleibrink of the Calgary Glencoe Club got off to a great start at the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts Wednesday.

LEDUC — Defending champion Shannon Kleibrink of the Calgary Glencoe Club got off to a great start at the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts Wednesday.

Kleibrink, who received an opening round bye, downed Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge 10-3 in the second draw to move into the A-side semifinal.

She plays Heather Nedohin of the Edmonton Saville Sports Centre at 9 a.m. today.

Nedohin downed Renee Sonnenberg of Grande Prairie 8-4 after stopping Candace Wanechko of Ellerslie 14-2 in the first draw.

Val Sweeting and Jesse Kaufman, both of the Saville Centre, were also double winners.

Sweeting opened with a 9-6 win over Glenys Bakker of Airdrie, then beat Crystal Webster of the Glencoe Club 8-4.

Kaufman had an 8-2 win over Lisa Eyamie of High River before downing Cheryl Bernard of Calgary Glencoe 6-3.

Sweeting and Kaufman also meet at 9 a.m. today with the semifinal winners clashing in the A final at 6:30 p.m.

In the only other game Wednesday Scheidegger edged Desiree Owen of Grande Prairie 5-4 in the first draw.

The Scotties finishes Sunday with the winner advancing to the Canadian Scotties, Feb. 18-26 in Red Deer.
