Lacome Rockets win bantam title, Ponoka Stampeders advance

Ty Glasman notched a first-period goal for the Rockets, while Tony Kozak made 25 saves.

Lacombe defeated Strathcona 4-2 in a semifinal earlier in the day, getting three goals from Luymes and singles from Carson Barnes and Gerrit Verhoeven.

The Rockets were 2-1 in round-robin play, opening with a 3-1 loss to Okotoks while getting their lone goal from Luymes and a 29-save outing from Kozak.

From there, the hosts downed Grande Prairie 6-2 and defeated St. Albert 4-2. Riley Workman, with two goals, Glasman, Luymes, Ty Wagar and Jordon Jacobi scored against Grande Prairie, and Jacobi tallied twice, Zane Bennett and Zach Kallen notched singles and Lane Congdon made 12 saves versus St. Albert.

Meanwhile, the Innisfail Flyers were 1-2 and the Olds Chiefs were 0-3.

Joshua Richardson and Chance McKnight scored and Aiden Doel made 31 saves as the Flyers fell 3-2 to Strathcona, and Nolan Pochapsky notched the lone goal and Kaden Christensen turned aside 31 shots in a 4-1 loss to Lloydminster.

The Flyers downed the Olds Chiefs 4-3 for their only victory as Dreyton MacDonald, Brett Dach, Reed Engman and Ryan Wachiter provided the goals and Doel made 18 saves. Everest Hughes potted all three Olds goals and Jagger Emerson made 26 saves.

The Chiefs also fell 4-1 to Lloydminster and 3-1 to Strathcona, their goals coming from Greg Delong and Quintin Thorburn. Emerson made 22 saves against Strathcona.

l The Ponoka Stampeders, with Noah Hackett firing three goals and Rylan Lefebvre netting a pair, slipped past the Westlock Selects 7-6 in the championship final of the atom B provincials at Blackfalds.

Jared Bussiere and Aidan Gratton also scored for the Stamps, who got a 27-save effort from Madison McLaren.

Earlier, the Stamps crushed Coaldale 14-3 in a semifinal as Hackett eruped for six goals, Bussiere recorded a hat trick, Kash Bonnett potted a pair and Lefebvre, Gratton and Reagan Rabbit also scored. McLaren made 11 saves.

The Stamps hammered their round-robin opponents, winning 15-2, 12-2 and 12-4 over Provost, CNN and Didsbury.

Hackett tallied five times against Provost, with Gratton and Bussiere each sniping four goals, Bonnett and Lefebvre adding singles and McLaren making 25 saves.

Hackett sniped seven goals against CNN. Emett Norm tallied twice, Gratton, Rabbit and Bussiere also scored and McLaren blocked 15 shots. In the win over Didsbury, Hackett notched four goals, Gratton and Lefebvre each netted three, Bonnett and Jared Rice had singles and McLaren made 14 saves.

Meanwhile, the host Bulldogs posted a 0-2-1 slate, their lone positive result being a 3-3 tie with Coaldale in which Luke Marshall, Aryn Chambers and Levin Wideman provided the goals and Haysyn Ostrup blocked 17 shots.

Seth Eckert scored and Ryland Benjamin made 20 saves in a 2-1 loss to Beaverlodge, and Marshall, Austin Hunt, Matthieu Guimond, Clayne MacDonald and Brett Meerman scored and Benjamin stopped 26 shots as Blackfalds fell 8-5 to Westlock.

• The Sylvan Lake Lakers were 0-4 at the provincial major bantam AAA championship tournament at Medicine Hat.

The Lakers opened with an 8-1 loss to Cold Lake, then fell 8-4, 7-2 and 4-1 to Lethbridge, the Calgary Bruins and Strathmore, respectively.

• The Rocky Mountain House Raiders and Stettler Storm were each 0-3 in the bantam A provincials at High Prairie, where Stony Plain edged Peace River 2-1 in the title game.

Rocky lost 5-1, 6-2 and 10-1 to Vegreville, Chestermere and High Prairie, and the Storm were 5-2, 2-1 and 5-2 losers to Peace River, Okotoks and Stony Plain.

• The Kneehill Chiefs posted a 1-2 record at the bantam B provincials at Devon, beating the Thunderstars 8-1 and losing 7-5 to Vermilion and 7-2 to Wetaskiwin.

Fairview downed Wetaskiwin 7-5 in the gold-medal game.

• The host Kneehill Chiefs were 0-3 in the bantam C provincial tournament at Three Hills and Trochu.

Kneehill lost 6-2 to Athabasca and 19-1 and 10-1 to Coronation and Beaverlodge. Boyle blanked Coronation 6-0 in the final.
