Lakers beat Elks

The Sylvan Lake Lakers scored a late goal to defeat the Deer Elks 3-2 in the third and deciding game of a best-of-three South Central Hockey League midget AA second-round playoff series during the weekend.

Ryker Lee, Robin Carlson and Tyler Yach scored for the Lakers. Replying for the Elks were Kwyn Hiebert and Dustin Spearing.

Brett Frisneth faced 35 shots in the Sylvan Lake net, while Brady Jewan made 20 saves for Red Deer.

The Lakers took Game 1 of the seires 4-1 on goals by Leer, Carlson, Landon Wolitski and Bryce Boguski and a 35-save outing from Frisneth. Logan Muir made 36 saves for the Elks, whose lone goal came from Ryan Strome.

The Elks, with Kevin Innes, Ian Mclellan, Nicholas Keoghan and Dylan Cole each potting a goal and Jewan stopping 28 shots, prevailed 4-3 in Game 2. Boguski, Leer and Tyson Strange tallied for the Lakers, while netminder Keith Idland faced 24 shots.
