Last fundraising push for Lacombe Athletic Park to cover artificial turf

The Lacombe Athletic Park Association is taking its last kick at the can to raise enough funds to pay for its MEGlobal Athletic Park artificial turf.

The Lacombe Athletic Park Association is taking its last kick at the can to raise enough funds to pay for its MEGlobal Athletic Park artificial turf.

The association’s goal is to raise $92,000 by the end of May to make way for turf set to be installed during the first week of June.

Lacombe Athletic Park Association president Don Gustafson said on Thursday that the turf has been ordered and planned for; therefore, they are obligated to complete the installation.

“If we can’t raise it we are going to have to do it by taking out a loan and we are all hoping that we can avoid that,” he said.

Gustafson says they are encouraging local business to purchase sideline, bleacher, concession and park entrance sign sponsors, along with recognition plaques, which will be located on the Encana Field House, or smaller plaques which will be placed on bleacher seats.

The installation of the turf is the second last phase of the $3.5 million project which will serve Lacombe’s sports and community groups. The park expects to serve over 45,000 visitors each year.

“It’s going to be a great facility for our youth and general public with a wide-range of uses,” Gustafson said.

“We hope people come forward and help us finish it off.”
