Lawyer indicates funeral home fraud case to be resolved in new year

It’s anticipated charges against the owners of a southern Alberta funeral home will be resolved in the new year.

LETHBRIDGE — It’s anticipated charges against the owners of a southern Alberta funeral home will be resolved in the new year.

A lawyer speaking on behalf of a Calgary defence counsel who represents Ralph and Faith Zentner appeared in Lethbridge court and said there will be no trial.

The Zentners, both in their 40s, are charged with fraud and offering an indignity to a dead body at the Cornerstone Funeral Home.

They are accused of overcharging customers for caskets used in cremations.

It’s also alleged that they cut off a deceased’s finger to remove a ring and reused a rental casket without the lining being replaced each time.

They were to go to trial Jan. 9, but the case has now been put over until Jan. 18.
