Lesbian who was attacked by group of men critical of police

EDMONTON — A lesbian who was kicked in the face by a man is questioning how the Edmonton police have handled her case.

EDMONTON — A lesbian who was kicked in the face by a man is questioning how the Edmonton police have handled her case.

Shannon Barry, 31, says early Saturday morning a group of men yelled homophobic slurs at her before one man kicked her in the face, sending her to hospital with serious injuries.

Barry says she has not been formally interviewed by police and officers didn’t search for her attacker.

Police acknowledge officers didn’t complete a report on the attack until Thursday.

Insp. Phil Bailey says the report should have been filed sooner and the case is now a priority for the hate crime unit.

Relatives say they are outraged and that officers should have followed up with Barry about the attack.
