EDMONTON — Alberta Lt.-Gov. Norman Kwong is resting in a Calgary hospital after surgery to remove a small cancerous growth.
A government news release says Kwong will be taking a break from his ceremonial and social duties while he recovers.
But he will continue to perform his constitutional responsibilities such as signing orders-in-council and granting royal assent to legislation.
The lieutenant governor says he is looking forward to resuming a full schedule as soon as possible.
Kwong, who was born in 1929 in Calgary, was named to the vice-regal post in January 2005.
He had a successful Canadian Football League career with the Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Eskimos between 1948 and 1960.
