The homestanding Stettler Lightning scored three unanswered goals in the second period and went on to beat the Red Deer Vipers 4-2 in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play Tuesday.

Brett Ouellette, Dylan Muhlbach, with his second of the game, and Jake Schwarzenberger connected for the Lightning in the middle stanza to take a 4-1 lead.

Steve Cormack and Cole DeGraaf replied for the Vipers.

Simon Thieleman made 22 saves for the Lightning, who had 25 shots on Red Deer’s Jason Pohl.

Meanwhile in Blackfalds the Three Hills Thrashers downed the Wranglers 5-3.

Cam Braun had two goals for the Thrashers with singles added by John Midtdal, Landon Kletke and Joel Harrison. Karson French, Jason Bell and Stephen Pietsch scored for the Wranglers.

Devon Dell made 39 saves in goal for Three Hills while Layne Swier started for Blackfalds and made four saves before giving way to Reagan Hughes in the first period.
