The Red Deer MGM Ford Lincoln Titans U19 rugby teams dropped a pair of games to Strathcona Druids at Titans Park Wednesday, losing 21-20 in boys’ play and 39-12 in girls’ action.

The Red Deer MGM Ford Lincoln Titans U19 rugby teams dropped a pair of games to Strathcona Druids at Titans Park Wednesday, losing 21-20 in boys’ play and 39-12 in girls’ action.

Kyle Pickett had two tries and Chay Stearns and Mike Soley one each for the Red Deer boys, who failed to convert any of the four.

The Titans sit with a 2-2 record. Soley was man of the match.

Erika Ziegler and Jordan Grant scored tries for the Red Deer girls with Christy Weiss adding a convert.

The Titans have a 2-1 record. Grant was women of the match.

The U19 girls will see action Saturday during ‘Rugby Day in Red Deer’ as they play a tournament format against the Druids and Calgary Hornets and Saracens.

The Canadian CIS all-stars, which included Red Deer’s Shannon Court, who is at the U of Lethbridge, played a pair of matches against the USA All-stars.

Court played both matches and scored a try in each as Canada won 19-3 and lost 23-21.


Foursome short listed for Team Alberta

Four Central Albertans have been short listed for Team Alberta’s U18 girls’ hockey team.

Defencemen Taryn Baumgardt of Innisfail and Hannah Mousek of Olds, both of whom played with the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs midget AAA team, and Amber Yuha of Bawlf and forward Jessyka Holt of Bashaw are among the 27 players on the list.

All 27 players will compete for Alberta at an elite female tournament in Regina, Sept. 23-25. Following the tournament the Team Alberta staff will follow the girls during their regular season then name the final 20 to compete in the Canadian U18 championships Nov. 2-6 in Saguenay, Que.
