Grizzlys fall to Okotoks
OKOTOKS — The Olds Grizzlys gave up a power-play goal to Houston Hazelaar at 13:03 of the third period and fell 3-2 to the Okotoks Oilers in Alberta Junior Hockey League action Tuesday.
Alex Kromm and Nolan Huysmans also scored for the Oilers, with Sean Davies and Spencer Dorowicz replying for the Grizzlys.
Michael Tadjdeh stood tall in the Okotoks net, stopping 35 shots. Brandon Thiessen made 24 saves for the visitors.
Olds was zero-for-eight on the power play, while Okotoks was one-for-seven.
The Grizzlys now head north to face the Fort McMurray Oil Barons Friday and the Bonnyville Pontiacs 24 hours later.
The Grizzlys’ next home game is Oct. 18 versus the Calgary Mustangs.
Renegades place second
The Red Deer U12 Tier I Renegades girls team placed second in the Wild Turkey Cup indoor soccer tournament in Calgary during the weekend.
The Renegades beat the Rangers 6-2, the Blizzard Celtic 3-2 and the Signal Hill Phanton 7-1 before dropping a 6-0 decision to the WRC Thunder in the final.
Frontier Chiefs win pair
The Red Deer Frontier Chiefs won a pair of bantam A hockey league games during the weekend.
The Chiefs downed Lacombe A1 5-3 and downed Lacombe A2 4-1.
Carter Bennett scored three times and Tristyn Zarubiak twice against Lacombe A1 while Bennett, Zarubiak, Brad Penney and Carson Stuve connected against Lacombe A2.
