McLellan and Kiddey are RDC athletes of week

Soccer players Melissa McLellan and Connor Kiddey are the RDC athletes of the week.

McLellan turned in a strong defensive performance during a pair of road matches as the Queens battled Medicine Hat to a 2-2 draw and downed Lethbridge 6-0. Capable of playing several positions, McLellan was named player of the match versus Medicine Hat and successfully shut down Lethbridge attackers Sunday.

Kiddey was named player of the game in the Kings’ 4-2 loss at Lethbridge Sunday and was also prominent in a 2-2 tie Saturday at Medicine Hat.

The RDC soccer teams have their home-openers this weekend, hosting SAIT and Mount Royal Saturday and Sunday. The women’s games start at noon, followed by the men’s matches at 2 p.m.


Sylvan coach is at evaluation camp

Sylvan Lake Admirals general manager/head coach Jason Stephens is a participant in the Canada West evaluation camp which started Sunday and concludes Thursday at Canmore.

Stephens is coaching one of the teams at the selection camp, which features 60 of the premier players from the five western Canada junior A leagues (BCHL, AJHL, SJHL, MJHL and SIJHL).

The Canada West team will compete in the World Junior A Challenge in the Czech Republic in November.
