A new neighbourhood north of 67th Street and east of the Red Deer River will see its first housing lots up for grabs on May 15.

Garden Heights will be developed with some unique features, including a community garden plot, special street lighting to minimize light pollution, and the encouragement of greener building practices.

The lot draw will involve 107 lots, including six secondary suite lots and six pairs of semi detached (R1A) lots.

Registration must be made in person for the lot draw at the Land and Economic Development Department at 4815 48th St. from May 7 to 11 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

No late registrations will be accepted. Contractors must have a valid 2012 City of Red Deer general contractors licence to register.

The lot draw will be held at Westerner Park’s Harvest Centre in the Marquis Room. Check-in starts at 9 a.m., with the lot draw to start at 10 a.m.

A $5,000 deposit will be required. It will be forfeited if the applicant chooses a lot but doesn’t proceed with the land sale agreement.

A social care site and R2 green development will be sold at a later date through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Request for Proposal packages will be available on the website and at the Land and Economic Development office in the fall.
