CAMROSE — Jonathan Milley struck twice to lead the Pembroke Lumber Kings past the Wellington Dukes 5-2 Monday in the preliminary round of the 2011 RBC Cup.

Cam Yuill scored both of Wellington’s goals. Jordan Ruby and Craig Rylett combined to stop 24 shots.

The Lumber Kings and the Dukes are both Ontario-based teams, though the Dukes are representing the Central region while the Lumber Kings are in the East.

Earlier Monday, Dylan Walchuk scored twice, including the eventual winner, as the Vernon Vipers downed the Portage Terriers 5-2.

David Robinson, Ryan Renz and John Knisley also scored for Vernon. Kirby Halcrow stopped 15 shots to earn the win for the team from B.C.

Tanner Waldvogel and Stephane Pattyn scored third-period goals, but it wasn’t enough to get Portage back into the game. The Manitobans got 20 saves from Kirk Croswell.

Walchuk and Pattyn were named the players of the game.
