CRANBROOK, B.C. — A man accused of abducting — and then returning — a three-year-old boy in Sparwood, B.C. has been found fit to stand trial.
Forty-six-year-old Randall Hopley made a brief appearance in provincial court in Cranbrook on Wednesday by video link from a jail in Kamloops.
He’s accused of kidnapping Kienan Hiebert from his bed on Sept. 7.
The boy was held several days before being returned to his home unharmed after an emotional appeal from his parents.
Hopley appeared neat, clean and much healthier during the video appearance than he did at his last court date.
A psychiatric assessment found him fit to stand trial and he returns to court Dec. 19 for a bail hearing.
