Man charged after alleged date rape of woman in Calgary-area community

A Calgary man is accused of using a so-called date rape drug to sexually assault a woman he met through a personal classified ad on the Internet.

CHESTERMERE — A Calgary man is accused of using a so-called date rape drug to sexually assault a woman he met through a personal classified ad on the Internet.

RCMP say the woman made contact with a man on Aug. 6 through an ad called Exchange House with Good Time.

Subsequent Internet contacts led to them meeting in Calgary before travelling to a residence in Chestermere, east of the city, where the woman was allegedly drugged unconscious.

Police say she was sexually assaulted over a number of hours before she regained consciousness and called police.

Mounties say other women may have answered the same ad and suffered similar assaults.

Ramanjit Singh Dhaliwal, 32, faces charges that include sexual assault and is to appear in court Sept. 15.
